OUR INSIGHTS

KITCHEN DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

The kitchen, often the epicenter of the home, can be the most rewarding yet challenging area to remodel due to its multifaceted nature. While visual design is important, functionality also plays a large role in the overall success of a kitchen design. We tailor our approach to kitchen design around each client, focusing on their individuals needs and desires. The kitchen triangle, which is based on the connection and accessibility between the sink, range, and refrigerator, is at the heart of all kitchen design. Is our client a culinary enthusiast, avid baker, or casual home cook? Do they need a lower counter area for kneading or a hidden coffee station for their morning cup of coffee? Their cooking habits inform appliance choices and placement. Microwaves, ovens, and prep areas all deserve careful consideration to make sure the kitchen is in alignment with each clients’ unique lifestyle and needs. Striking the right balance in appliance layout is key; too close or too far apart can both impede functionality. The best design kitchens are those that you don’t even think about the design or functionality while using, it all just flows naturally.

We love the functionality of a kitchen island, which is a popular kitchen feature, and strive to make sure it works well in the overall flow & placement of the kitchen. An incorrectly designed island can act as a barrier, restrict movement, and become more of a hinderance than help in a heavily trafficked space. Not all features will work in a kitchen and it’s important to understand the balance of form, function & design when reimagining your kitchen.

Cabinets and storage solutions serve as the very foundation of successful kitchen design. It is the item that gets used the most in the kitchen and therefor needs to not only look nice but also hold up to the needs of our clients.. It's worth noting that quality doesn't necessarily equate to custom. The cabinet industry offers a wide spectrum of options, each with its own merits and considerations. We value that conversation with our clients, making sure we find the right balance between cost, quality & design. The world of cabinetry is constantly evolving, with fun and functional new insert and built-in options hitting the market every day. From pullout drawers for garbage bins to convenient pop-up mixer stands, even microwave drawers and built-in stepping stools, the possibilities are endless. We understand that a kitchen is more than a collection of appliances and cabinets; it’s the heartbeat and main gathering place of your home. We would love to chat about how we can help you achieve your dream kitchen!

cABINET MAXIMIZATION / AGING IN PLACE

When designing the kitchen for our Ravenna Remodel we wanted to create a space that was both efficient and user-friendly for aging in place. Maximizing cabinet storage while maintaining accessibility and visibility is essential for a well-designed and practical kitchen. With the following elements we aimed to prioritize these considerations in the design to result in a highly functional and organized space.

Tall Pantry Cabinets with Pull Outs: Tall pantry cabinets with pull-out shelves are excellent for maximizing storage space and ensuring easy access to items. These shelves allow for better visibility and organization of your pantry items, making it more convenient to find what you need.

Microwave Drawer: Installing a microwave drawer is a smart choice for accessibility. It eliminates the need for reaching overhead, which can be inconvenient and potentially unsafe, especially with hot or heavy dishes. Placing it near your base mixer cabinet with an electric outlet is a practical solution for consolidating electrical connections.

Super Susan and Cloud Pullout: Corner cabinets are often underutilized due to their hard-to-reach corners. Incorporating a Super Susan and Cloud pullout is an excellent way to make the most of this space. They allow for easy access to items in the corners and ensure that nothing gets lost or forgotten in the back of the cabinet.

PNW SPIRITS

In the Pacific Northwest we’re not only fortunate to have access to breathtaking natural beauty, but a vibrant culture of local craft spirits. From artisanal amaro inspired by the traditions of the region to small batch vodka utilizing grapes grown on the slopes of Red Mountain AVA, these libations capture the essence of our unique region. Westward Whiskey is a staple in Crescent Builds Principal Emilee’s kitchen and is especially delicious in this classic fall cocktail!

1 1/2 oz. Westward Whiskey
3/4 oz. Sweet Vermouth
3/4 oz. Campari
Orange peel, for serving

Mix all ingredients together and serve over ice in your favorite fall beverage vessel (we love a high ball glass!) and enjoy!
